Ukrainian Startup Osavul Raises $10 Million to Expand Threat Detection

Ukrainian-founded technology company Osavul has raised €8.5 million ($10 million) to expand its AI-powered threat detection platform to businesses and critical infrastructure operators.

Cyberattacks, sabotage, espionage and information manipulation are increasingly being combined to disrupt infrastructure and obscure responsibility, Osavul said on its website. The company cited more than 150 state-linked incidents across Europe since 2022.

A distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack, which floods systems with traffic to disrupt access, targeted Ukrainian parcel delivery company Nova Poshta on Oct. 1, the company said on Facebook.

Cybersecurity investor 33N Ventures led the Series A round, with participation from Balnord, G+D Ventures and existing investor 42CAP.

Including previous rounds – notably $1 million from the Ukrainian tech-focused venture capital fund SMRK in May 2023 and $3 million from 42CAP in September 2024 – the company’s total funding now stands at approximately €12 million, according to Osavul.

“Funding takes the platform to enterprises and critical infrastructure operators while deepening Osavul’s government and defence work globally,” the Luxembourg-headquartered company wrote on its website.

Developed during Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Osavul’s platform now serves government and security institutions in more than 10 countries, including the UK, Germany, Poland and the US, the company said. It also said it is one of three technology companies delivering NATO’s Information Environment Assessment Capability.

The funding will support further AI development, commercial operations and expansion into new markets, the company said.

Osavul says its platform analyzes data from social media, news outlets and messaging apps to detect coordinated disinformation campaigns, bot networks and psychological operations. It links signs of hostile activity to potential threats against clients’ staff, facilities and supply chains.

The company says this helps security teams assess how online activity could develop into cyberattacks or physical threats.

On July 14, the EU blacklisted Russian hackers and companies over cyberattacks against Europe and Ukraine.
